New Hampshire has been hopping with birther activity lately. Birther Queen herself, Orly Taitz, was in the state last Friday for a hearing of the Ballot Law Commission. Taitz, along with several state representatives, were there to observe a vote as to whether President Barack Obama can be on the New Hampshire primary ballot. Taitz tried to have him removed because she says his birth certificate is forged. The Ballot Law Commission, which is chaired by a Republican, unanimously voted to keep Obama on the ballot. Then all hell broke loose. Not Taitz, but several New Hampshire State Representatives started yelling and screaming, threatening an assistant attorney general and the assistant secretary of state. It was videotaped:
Speaker of the House Bill O'Brien was to have a meeting with the angry birthers in his office today, but it was canceled. The NH State Police are investigating the incident.
Although I have not yet seen this reported, I understand that Attorney General Delaney wants the investigation because, inter alia, during a break in the hearing, assistant attorney general Matt Mavageorge felt it necessary to lock himself in an office at the LOB with the assistant Secretary of State to get away from the angry group of birthers - excuse, me, non-birthers who don't think the President is who he says he is.
It is pretty pathetic that an angry mini-mob would put the assistant AG and assistant SOS in fear for their safety to the extent that they locked themselves in a committee office. And then, according to what I have heard, some of the group pounded on the door. What a disgrace.
So far none of the offending reps has been asked to resign, or even gotten a "wrist slap" from House Republican Leadership. IOKIYAR has gone too far. Another reason not to ignore state level races in 2012. Washington can be great, but if teh crazy is allowed free reign at the state level, it won't help us very much.
